Touching Smoke, by Airicka Phoenix

touching smokeI really wanted to read this book because I’ve heard amazing things about it. So, I went into this book with pretty high expectations. Sometimes this can backfire for me. But not this time. This novel exceeded my expectations.

The book is about Fallon, a girl who is raised by her mom and has never met her dad. It is clear from the beginning that her mom is hiding something from her, and that it has something to do with the impossibly sexy guy on the motorcycle that keeps showing up everywhere.  When we learn who the sexy stranger is and what his connection to Fallon is that’s when the story really takes off.

I don’t want to give away anything else about the plot. It is full of surprises and thrills and you need to read the book to experience it.

I love Isaiah. It’s no secret that I like the “protector” guy and Isaiah was definitely that. He’s sexy, strong, protective, and passionate. I also really related to Fallon. She is a well drawn character and the emotions she felt were very authentic to her character and the story.  Another aspect I thoroughly enjoyed is the mystery behind the dreams Fallon has about Amelia.  It’s a great mystery and a fabulous twist.

Overall, I thought this was a thrilling, suspenseful, romantic read. I give it 5 stars and recommend it to anyone looking for a great young adult paranormal read.

Masquerade by Cambria Hebert

I loved this book. It had every element I love in a good Young Adult paranormal romance – action, suspense, a little mystery and, of course, a lot of romance.

The story centers around Heven (love the name by the way) who was attacked one night walking home from the library. The attack leaves her face disfigured. Before the incident she was pretty and popular. Now she is insecure and shy. Then she meets Sam, a boy who thinks she’s beautiful and doesn’t seem to notice her scars. But soon she discovers that Sam knows more about her attack than he should.

Okay, let me just say that the chemistry between Heven and Sam is off the hook! I loved them together! Sam is a swoon worthy hero and Heven is a very relatable heroine. Both of them are likeable, and people you can really care about. I know I am hooked on this series. I can tell there are a lot of exciting things around the corner for Sam and Heven…so I’m off to read Charade and I’m anxiously awaiting the release of Tirade!

I give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great young adult read!

Touching Eternity Blog Tour – Interview with Airicka Phoenix!

I’m so excited to have Airicka Phoenix joining us today as part of the Touching Eternity Blog Tour! Welcome Airicka!

When did you start writing? Since the third grade when we were asked to write a short story using words and pictures. I rewrote Beauty and the Beast. I’ve been writing since.

What is your favorite genre to read? Write?  I’ll read just about anything so long as there’s romance involved! That’s my one catch.

Did you always want to write Young Adult?  No. I write Adult as well, which hasn’t yet been published, but will be next year.

What made you decide to write Young Adult? I love Young Adult. I love the doors that have opened since I was a teenager. There is so much more variety now. I love it.

What is your favorite thing about being an author? Meeting new people. It’s been amazing! I have made some amazing friends and met some incredible people.

What is your go-to snack food while writing? I don’t really have a favorite snack. I’ll munch on whatever is on hand, but nothing I’d eat all the time.

Favorite drink? Hot chocolate. I need a mug before I sit down.

Favorite junk food? I love Hickory Stick chips.

Favorite author? I never know how to answer this because there are so many. There are the usual, Stephan King, Nora Roberts, R.L. Stine… but I have had the honor of meeting so many other authors and… I really don’t know how to answer this one. Lol. What are your hobbies besides reading and writing? Crafts. I love making things from… everything! I do paper crafts, wood, clay… you name it.

Do you prefer quiet or noise while writing? I love quiet, but I think that’s because I have 4 kids and quiet is such a rare thing. When it is quiet, I feel like a jittery mouse, always jumping at sounds.

What project are you currently working on? Can you give us some insider information? I am actually working on two things. One is a contemporary romance that will be released in time for Valentine’s Day. The other is my Hunter Series, which is action packed, dangerous and full of romance.

What is your favorite music to listen to while writing? That all depends on the scene I’m writing. I’ll go with the mood of that scene.

What book are you currently reading? I am currently editing, so I’m reading Touching Eternity.

Who is your book boyfriend? Oh wow… there are so many. Lol that sounds so wrong. But I really can’t pull just one out of my head…

Give us an excerpt from “Touching Eternity.” “Aren’t you supposed to be at the party?” “I was at the party,” he said over his shoulder. “I danced. I smiled. I made nice with all the people your father pushed under my nose. Now I want a dance with my girl.” For an idiotic moment, she forgot to hold the hem of her nightgown aloft and her foot caught. She stumbled and was caught in his arms. “Your girl?” The question came out in an excited whisper that brought a bright smile to his face. His eyes glinted in the twinkling light a few yards away. “Will you be mine?” It was all she could do to keep from catapulting herself into his arms. Her fingers closed in the soft material of his blazer. “But those other girls… they’re so pretty and…” her smile faded. Her heart sank. “They’re normal, Isaiah.” His fingers were warm through the fabric of her dress as he drew her deep into his arms. “You’re normal, Ams. And they can be as pretty as they want. They can never make my heart stop the way you do.” Hope, bright, sparkly, leapt into her chest, pushed its way up. She stopped it. “But—” His finger ghosted her lips. “No buts. Ever. There is no one that can make me look into their eyes and see the rest of my life. Only you.”

If you could be any character in any book who would you be? I would LOVE to be Clara! She’s the heroine of my Hunter Series. I think she is just fantastic! A total butt kicking chic.

Thank you so much, Amber for having me visit your blog and sit down with you and your readers. I had a wonderful time and hope we can do it again soon!

Traced, by Megan Squires

About the book:

The Outlier Chronicles -Traced: Part One

Tessa can’t sleep.

But when your parents are dead and the government directs your path in life, sleep shouldn’t come easily.

Lately, Tessa’s fitful nights are growing even more predictable, almost like déjà vu. And she’s beginning to think that something greater is at work—something her society has taken drastic measures to keep hidden.

Caught between self-discovery and government conformity, she’ll have to choose either the boy who can help her reveal this new truth or the one that can provide her with the security of familiarity.

Tessa’s faced with a weighty decision.

And she’s going to need more than a good night’s sleep to make it.

My Review:

I absolutely loved this book. It is not your typical dystopian novel. There isn’t all the blood, gore and violence, yet there is still a suspenseful element to it. Tessa harbors a secret – one she doesn’t even know about. It is so fun to discover this secret with her, and the mystery behind it keeps you turning the pages quickly. But, honestly, it was the love triangle that intrigued me the most. I know that anyone who follows my blog isn’t shocked by this statement at all. I adore a good love story.

In Traced, Tessa is torn between two different boys – Joel and Liam. And the truth is that I was torn too. In one moment I would be totally team Joel and a few pages later I’d be swooning over Liam. The problem is that there’s no obvious choice. They are both really great guys and super good-looking (at least in my head). I do think if I had to choose though I’d be team Joel. Of course I have no idea who Tessa picks. I guess I will just have to read Recruited:Part 2 coming out in the Spring of 2013.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! The book releases today so grab your copy!!

Thorns, by Kate Avery Ellison

Frost (the first book in the Frost Chronicles) was one of my favorite books I read this year, so I had very high expectations going in to reading the second book, Thorns. You can check out my review of Frost here. Let me tell you, Thorns did not dissapoint! I thought it was even better than the first book.

In Thorns, the Farthers have taken over the Frost, the Watchers are becoming more bold, and Lia is uncovering even more secrets about her parents. She misses Gabe but she is growing closer to Adam Brewer. The chemistry between them is redhot! I was all about Gabe in Frost but Adam may be changing my mind in this book.

I love Lia. She is a strong character with fierce emotions. I also really liked the storyline with her brother in this book. His personality emerged and I connected with him. Ellison’s use of language is beautiful. Her words beckon me into the Frost. Even though I read the book on hundred degree days I could practically feel the chill in the air as I read. I could really picture the world that Lia lives in.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for the third to find out what happens. The ending hints to something amazing! 5 out of 5 stars!
